Abstract

Morocco is a North African country with an official Arabic language, whose religion is Islam, as stated in its constitution.

as a country with a single official language “Arabic” and lately characterized by being multilingual?

In fact, there is a linguistic reality different from that supported by the constitution. Morocco is a multilingual country where national and foreign languages coexist.

As we noted, within the same geographic space, characterized by multilingualism, monolingual or plurilingual people can be found. Thus, both concepts refer to the use of one, two or even several languages, one linked to the social aspect “multilingualism” and the other to the individual aspect “plurilingualism”.

In Morocco, many languages cohabit in its geographic space that extends from the city of Tangier, in the north, to the city of Lagouira, in the south. These are divided into national and foreign languages.

As for the foreign languages spoken in our territory, they boil down to the languages of the colonizers, French and Spanish, and the English language, which is notably imposing itself in the Moroccan language market, as it invades other international markets.

In fact, the learning of foreign languages such as Portuguese has great future opportunities. In fact, learning this language, Portuguese, has its own characteristics and difficulties.
