Abstract
The Amazigh varieties of Tarifit et Tachlelhit are undeniable are hardly mutually intelligible. The most obvious explanation for this lack of mutual understanding is that the varieties of Amazigh have evolved in different ways, both at the linguistic and sociolinguistic levels. This study argues that the lack of mutual intelligibility between Tarifit and Tachelhit and Tachelhit, is nothing more than the result of the presence of certain changes, both diachronic and synchronic, that have affected specific sounds of the language. At a more precise level, this study will shed light on consonant weakening as a factor causing the lack of intelligibility observed among Amazigh speakers in Morocco.
