Abstract
This essay analyzes the formal and thematic aspects of the poem "Terzinas on Transience" (1894) by the renowned Austrian Impressionist writer Hugo von Hofmannsthal (1874–1929). The poem underscores the theme of transience. It is characterized by profound reflection, emotional introspection, and vivid imagery. Overall, it serves as a deep reflection on life and death, a sense of weariness with life, unease with reality, and a feeling of decadence. It leaves a melancholic impression, a nostalgia for bygone days, and a wistful indulgence in memories.
